Check out the first Age of Mythology: Retold Public Update Preview

Today we are launching the first Public Update Preview for Age of Mythology: Retold on Steamrunning from Friday, September 27th through Monday, September 30th. The PUP program provides a sneak peek of upcoming content and changes to owners of the game. It’s also an opportunity to share your feedback and help us squash issues before they ever arise. Thank you to all of our players for sharing your thoughts and feedback on Age of Mythology: Retold!

Starting today, everyone that owns Age of Mythology: Retold on Steam will have immediate access to the Public Update Preview. Read on for more details about the PUP program or follow the links below to join our current PUP!

Note: you must own the game and be logged in to view these PUP links on Steam!

What is the PUP?

The Public Update Preview is a publicly available, Steam ‘BETA’ branch accessible via your Age of Mythology: Retold properties menu. Opting into it will give you access to game content that is actively in development for the next game update.

These previews will sometimes contain new features, content, or bug fixes—it really depends on what we happen to be doing at the time—but it means that you’re invited to take a step behind the curtain and preview everything that’s coming to the game in the days or weeks leading up to a release.

How to find the PUP?

Whenever we make these PUP builds available, you’ll see a Public Update Preview branch appear in your Steam ‘BETA’ list.

You don’t need to redeem any keys or use any passwords; the PUP beta branch will show up whenever a preview build is available, and we’ll post on our channels to let you know it’s there and how to find it!

The PUP beta is a separate version of the game, so you will have to exit the beta when you’re done checking it out. While multiplayer is typically enabled in the PUP, you’ll only be able to play with other PUP players. If you’re struggling to find a multiplayer match on the PUP, try hosting a lobby instead.

Where to share PUP feedback?

Today, as we launch our very first Age of Mythology: Retold Public Update preview, you’ll also see the PUP forums go live in Steam Discussions. This is where you can start discussing the PUP, share feedback, or report issues found with the changes introduced in the PUP.

Note: You must own the game on Steam and be logged in to view the PUP discussion forums.

What comes after the PUP?

Once we’re ready to start prepping for the update to go live, a few things will happen:

  • We’ll pull back the PUP so it no longer appears in your Steam Beta list.
  • The PUP forum will be archived with all the threads about the current build.
  • If more feedback is needed, a new PUP and forum will appear again when we have a new build and branch to share.
  • A new list of changes will be posted along with areas you can focus on to make the biggest impact.

How does PUP feedback help?

Simply checking out the new content and playing games on the PUP is already a huge help to our development teams working on Age of Mythology: Retold! The information we get from your participation, or from any bugsplat reports you submit should you encounter a crash, help us to confirm the quality of our changes and identify issues that need more investigation.

We welcome feedback and are always eager to hear what you think about the new changes introduced in the PUP! While we won’t be able to fix everything you may find or change everything you suggest, our hope is that you’ll see your feedback represented over time and, together, enhance the value of the official updates we introduce to the game. Thank you all for contributing to the success of Age of Mythology: Retold!
