It’s only been two months since we visited E3 2019, where we shared our first demo of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and kicked off the official closed beta with the community. This past week, the team was back on the road—this time in Cologne, Germany for gamescom 2019—where we got to hang out with our fans, announce the official arrival of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition on Steam, and reveal the release date for the highly anticipated Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition!

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition
Perhaps the biggest news came before gamescom even began! During the official Xbox Insider livestream, we announced the official release of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition—which will be arriving on the his coming November 14, 2019! This was confirmed in an Xbox Wire article shared later that day:

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition
While Age of Empires II stole the stage, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition stole our hearts! Gamescom seemed like the perfect moment to slip in a surprise release of the RTS classic, which landed on Steam and in the library of Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) members on Monday.
Along with the new release, AoE: DE now supports cross-network play between the Microsoft Store and Steam—though existing owners will need to re-download the app to enjoy all the latest features of the game.
