In case you missed it, this week we LITERALLY had a launch event, featuring everyone’s favorite medieval siege engine, the trebuchet. Hosted at the beautiful Berkeley Castle in the English countryside, host Charleyy, Age Creator MangoMel and special guest Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, a.k.a. The Mountain, flung a plethora of goodies out of our custom treb. Built by Tod’s Workshop, this functioning treb fired a plushie sheep, an armored dummy, a CRT monitor and more. - The castle dates back to the 11th century and was originally built to keep the Welsh out during war.
- It has been home to the Berkeley family for over 850 years.
- Soft pink stones make up the castle’s walls, giving it a beautiful pink glow during sunrise and sunset.
- While it’s a beautiful sight, the castle is filled with deadly features like trip steps, arrow slits, and murder holes. These features were key in slowing down the enemy during battle.
- The castle holds about 25,000 archives and documents dating back to about 1154.
- It’s the only castle in the country to house the same family since the castle’s creation.
- There’s a fully functional medieval style kitchen in the castle
- Queen Elizabeth I played bowls on the “bowling green” during her stay at the castle.
- A beer cellar is found on castle grounds.
- The Age of Empires IV community will now be a part of the castle’s history — FOREVER.
