Age of Mythology: Retold Accessibility Options

We want each of our players around the world to experience Age of Mythology: Retold in a way that works best for them. At World’s Edge, we embrace Xbox’s philosophy that gaming is for everyone and should be inclusive and accessible.

Colors

  • Colors – The Colors panel allows players to fully customize the color for each player and each team to ensure maximum readability making them easier to see and understand.

Text

  • Font Size – A dropdown menu allows players to scale some HUD and in-game text between Standard, Large, and Extra Large size.

Visibility

  • Friend or Foe Colors – Enabling this option will display all of your units and buildings as blue, and all enemy units and buildings as red, and all allied units and buildings as yellow.
  • Enable Friend or Foe Outlines – Enabling this option will display an outline on each of the individual player’s units and buildings for assisted visibility.
  • Player Text Colors – Enabling this option will change the color of players text to match their chosen color. When disabled, all player related text will be shown in white for high contrast.
  • Enable Pattern Overlay – Enabling this option will display a pattern on each of the individual player’s units and buildings for assisted visibility.
  • Custom Building Placement Preview Colors – Enabling this option will display building placement previews in your chosen color. 
  • Mini-Map Contrasts – This slider sets the background contrast for the mini-map from the default light setting to a darker setting for a more contrasted view.

Narrator

The World’s Edge team has made sure that the menus and UI in Age of Mythology: Retold supports narration throughout our games.  We have several options to choose from to allow the experience to be customized to individual preferences.

  • Menus – Enabling this option allows the Narrator to read out menu text.
  • In Game – Enabling this option allows the Narrator to read out the text related to the in game UI.
  • Menus – Tooltips – Enabling this option allows the Narrator to read out tooltips related to the menu text.
  • In Game – Tooltips – Enabling this option allows the Narrator to read out tooltips related to the in game UI text.
  • Chat – Enabling this option allows the Narrator to read out any text chat sent via the in game text chat system.

Voice Chat

  • Speech to Text – Players can enable speech to text chat to have all voice-based communication from other players transcribed into text in real time.
  • Text to Speech – Players can enable text to speech chat. When enabled, players are provided with a text-entry box. All outgoing text that the player enters the text-entry box is transformed into synthesized audio in real time.
  • Text to Speech – Voice – This dropdown menu allows players to select different voice profiles for the text to speech features.

Difficulty Settings

Age of Mythology: Retold features different options to adjust the in-game difficulty for Campaign as well as Skirmish or Custom Matches vs A.I.

For Campaign, players have six difficulty settings to choose from, including Story mode for those looking to experience the storyline of Age of Mythology: Retold without a strong challenge. When playing the Campaign using the Story Mode, the enemy will only mounts light attacks.

Players looking to play against the A.I in either Skirmish or Custom Matches have six different difficulty options to choose from before launching the match. Each selection introduces different degrees of difficulty, whereas Extreme & Legendary are available for those wishing to test their skills at the highest levels.

Gameplay: On-Demand Tutorials

Age of Mythology: Retold players start the game with immediate access to tutorial missions. These missions help players learn the controls and basic gameplay mechanics so they can build a good foundation to work with. These tutorial missions can be accessed any time via the campaign menu or Learn tab.
